🏈 St. John Bosco Edges Mater Dei In A Thriller for the CIF-SS Championship
The St. John Bosco Braves beat Mater Dei High School in a high scoring shootout that featured 5-Star Quarterbacks Bryce Young and DJ Uiagalelei. The Braves pulled ahead with stellar offensive play by Quarterback DJ Uiagaleli, Kris Hutson, and Logan Loya.
The Braves also benefited defensively with stellar play by Defensive Lineman Nathan Burrel who had two sacks, a safety, an interception, and a forced fumble to help the Braves recover late in the second half. After finding themselves down 28-5 going into the second half, the Braves, behind 5 touchdown passes from DJ UiagaleleI.
The Braves (12-1) trailed 28-5 in the first half but took a 32-28 lead early in the fourth quarter on an 11-yard TD reception by Logan Loya.
St. John Bosco scored 34 unanswered points before Mater Dei scored with 5:38 left in the fourth quarter to cut the Braves’ lead to 39-34.
“I knew our kids were tough. I knew we were resilient,” said St. John Bosco coach Jason Negro, now a three-time section champion.
