United States, California, Los Angeles - 01/31/2020 (PRDistribution.com)

14-year-old basketball prodigy, Cameron Mercadel from Orange County, California has become the subject of the latest No Days Off episode from Whistle Sports.

The multiplatform content giant, which counts the likes of sporting and media heavyweights NBC Sports, Sky Sports, Tegna and WndrCo as investors, was wowed by the middle-school student’s incredible work ethic and on-court ability. The ball player trains four to six hours each day, working with a boxing coach, a speed and agility coach and a strength and agility coach alongside a basketball coach and juggles his grueling daily practice schedule with school work.

Mercadel’s achievements to date, undisputed talent and tremendous drive made him the natural choice for the latest installment of Whistle’s original franchise, a docu-series featuring relatable young athletes and the journey to achieve their goals. The episode has already been viewed almost half a million times on YouTube since debuting little over a week ago.

The media spotlight is a huge accolade for the teen sports star; Whistle’s content is delivered to 629 million people globally across YouTube, Snapchat, IGTV, Instagram, Facebook and TikTok and generates more than four billion video views every month.

Jason Malone, President of PlayMaker Network is in awe of Cameron’s maturity at such a young age. He said, "I happen to watch thousands of kids each year across many sports, and Cameron Mercadel is a unique talent with the dedicated drive and spirit required to help him excel beyond his imagination. Many young athletes can only dream of being the subject of a documentary, especially one like No Days Off which breaks down barriers in terms of content delivery and global audience reach.”

Born in Orange County, California, Mercadel has been playing basketball since the age of three. His father, Henry says, “Cameron grew up playing basketball. Me and his mom played college basketball. He saw a basketball in the house when he was around one, he started pushing it and moving it around. When he was three or four, he started to enjoy the shooting we did every morning.”

Cameron says, “In pre-school we had these 10 foot hoops. Before school each day, my dad had me shooting 250-300 shots. At four or five I wanted to start playing on a club team and start playing seriously. My goals now are to get varsity as a freshman, get a degree and go to the NBA.”
